A Day in the Life of Darren, Senior Solutions Architect
Darren is a Senior Solutions Architect at Alscient, responsible for the technical design and implementation of a range of IT Solutions.
Take a read through what he had to say when we quizzed him about his role, and what it’s like to work at Alscient…
Why did you want to become an Architect?
I worked for many years in the finance industry and although I started as a developer held a number of high profile roles including IT Directorships and my previous role as Head of IT operations for around 6500 seats. In these roles you end up in the vice between cutting costs and delivering better service. I decided to do something different and to use my experience to help others and to deliver technology, that is precisely what I do now.
How did you get started at Alscient, and how did you progress?
I joined Alscient 2½ years ago. Alscient helped me with cloud qualifications and working as a consultant rather than a customer. Things have moved fast since
What are your core skills?
I think of myself as an all-rounder but specialise in infrastructure. I’m good at conceptualising systems and especially fault finding.
What made you choose to join Alscient ahead of other organisations?
I liked the fact that Alscient was a growing organisation and the cloud practice was at it’s infancy. Alscient was well established and I had previously been a customer so knew that quality was important to the company. I like to deliver quality solutions.
Can you describe a typical day in the office?
Not really, each day is very different depending on the customer and the project in question. I like working on different customers premises when we can.
What makes Alscient a great place work? Why is it different?
The range of customers and projects is varied and interesting along with the challenges of growing a practice.
What does the future hold for Solutions Architecture?
I think the future of cloud technology is fascinating and certainly the future. If I could predict the next technological advancement I’d be walking around on my yacht somewhere but however technology develops I aim to be part of it.
What exciting things are on the horizon for Alscient?
There are several exciting projects starting now and I’m keen to ensure my current project gets delivered well. As Alscient grows and establishes a wider client base with more opportunities, I think this will create a very interesting environment to work in.
