Every month Leeds has a vast array of exciting tech events around the city. We’ve collated a list of 7 of our favourite events coming up in July!
Microsoft 365 User Group – 4th July – St George’s Centre
Hosted by Matt Fooks and Microsoft MVPs Chris Rhodes & Andrew Bettany, this exciting new group is hosting its first meetup. This event offers the technical community in Leeds the opportunity to turn up and find out more about the technologies in and around M365.
Their first meeting kicks off with an introduction to Microsoft 365, there’ll also be discussions about GDPR and M365. Andrew Bettany will be discussing how you can demonstrate GDPR compliance whilst bringing value and security to your business and customers. There’s also free pizza!
Sourcing + Social 5.0: Employer Branding workshop – 4th July – Malmaison
Sourcing & Social, a Leeds based event for in-house recruiters and HR Professionals. This event is a great opportunity to learn from two speakers relevant to the industry, as well as being able to come together with others in the industry to share knowledge, experiences and best practice.
This month they will be discussing employer branding and how to make it land within your business presented by brand reputation specialists Chatter. Followed on by Consume Communications, a Brand Marketing Consultancy presenting how to run a successful networking event to promote your business and build candidate engagement. Both Chatter and Consume Communications will then be leading workshops exploring how to apply the subjects they have addressed.
The JVM Thing 7.0 – 12th July – Sky, Leeds Dock
The JVM Thing is a tech networking group for the JVM language community, bringing together software enthusiasts to show, tell, share knowledge and discuss key topics related to the JVM ecosystem.
This month they’ll be hosting Richard McIntyre, principal developer at sky who will be
talking about designing and deploying a super-fast suite of micro-services on the JVM at Sky.
Also, Anthony Sargeant, Senior Developer will be talking about sky’s Identity platform.

Tech Contractor Networking: Leeds – 17th July – Platform
Tech Contractor Networking offers a quick informal networking event designed to fit into a contractors busy working day.
The idea is to bring together contractors from across Yorkshire together once a month to meet new people, network and ultimately help each other find new roles which always seem to land when you are not looking.
The session will be broken down into three 10 minute slots:

Leeds Sharp – 26th July – Platform
Leeds Sharp has become a staple meetup in the tech scene over the past six years. It’s a monthly code club that focuses on Microsoft technologies, all skill levels are welcome and
the meetings usually take place on the last Thursday of the month.
July’s meetup they will focus on Microsoft Bot Framework as well as cognitive services. They’ll be covering the basics, including what tools you can use and
where to go in order to get started, followed by a look at how AI can be used in chat bots to turn them from simple command-line pretenders to useful tools that customers will love!
James Mann, the Microsoft MVP who works as a software consultant at Black Marble will be leading the evenings proceedings.
Leeds Ruby Thing – 26th July – Veritas Ale & Wine Bar
Leeds Ruby Thing is a small informal event for anyone interested in the Ruby programming language. They welcome all skill levels, and it consists of one or two short 5 minute talks at the start of each meeting.
They usually have various guest speakers that specialize in the Ruby programming language, however currently the July guest is TBC!
