The JVM Thing 3.0 – Thurs 20th July

An evening to showcase Kotlin, an emerging JVM Language – What’s all the fuss about?

The next event is confirmed for Thursday 20th July kicking off with food at 6pm and speakers will start at 6.30pm.

Our friends at Infinity Works have kindly offered to let us use their event space for this, and as usual we will organise some food and drink for all attendees.

The evening will showcase Kotlin, an emerging JVM Language, and we have lined up Andy Bowes, Software Consultant @ Sky & Michael Richardson, Mobile Developer @ Sky who will be talking about the following:

Part 1 – Introduction to Kotlin
An overview of the Kotlin Language to demonstrate the key features of the language.
This session provides an introduction to the language, covering basic concepts and tips for Java developers to get started with it.

Part 2 – Kotlin Microservices
Demonstration of use of Kotlin to create REST Microservices using Spring Boot.
This will cover the similarity between Kotlin & Java Spring Boot applications & introduce the new features that are being introduced into the Spring framework to support Kotlin.

Part 3 – Kotlin Android Applications

Google recently announced first-class support for Kotlin in Android development.
This session will demonstrate the creation of Android applications using Kotlin and highlight the features of the language which make it a natural fit for Android development.

Over half of the tickets have already gone so don’t forget to sign up via eventbrite.
